On Thursday June 13, the electricity to the UMC Sports Center will be shut off starting at 7 a.m. to mid-afternoon. Sorry for the inconvenience, but this is necessary as upgrades and repairs are performed.
The next step in an integrated process to evaluate the aging underground electrical infrastructure will take place this summer. During the month of June, work will commence on locating many of the campus utilities using GIS. This will facilitate and enhance the planning and repair processes. This project has been underway for the past six months and will move forward in earnest in late June and July. During the course of the next 90 days, all of the high voltage apparatuses located across campus will be cleaned, serviced, and evaluated. This work will require the isolation of different areas on campus and secure the electricity feeding the buildings. Facilities & Operations will strive to give 48- to 72-hours' notice to building users prior to an outage. The one caveat is that this part of the campus infrastructure is fairly old and some of the changes have not been documented, which may result in some unplanned interruptions.
